Mono kitchen tools
Material: Mold forged stainless steel, ABS
Mono is a set of Kitchen utensil that includes a fruit peeler, a garlic press and poultry shears, forged up with stainless steel. It is an attempt to simplify the structure, use and clean of our everyday kitchen utensils and giving the tools more approachability.
During the development, effort was put on exploring the form referencing the nature creation, addressing where a little more deliberation would be implemented, as well as balancing the comfort of using and the iconic elements. The design language was inspired by the raw, uncarved form of natural objects, it gives a vogue boundry.
The garlic crusher usually has a rather complecated leveraging structure. I try to simplify it in an intuitive form, making the two parts, a slice and a pedestal. The serving both as a cutter and a spoon to clean out the left. The spoon and the pedestal are connected by a quartered circular hindge, it simplifys the traditional complicated revolving structure and provide as the fulcrum, as well as enable the users take the spoon out to clean.
Following the nature of metal forging fabrication, I want the forging duo pieces to be made by one forging steel, and other components follow the order and simplicity. A tosional spring is installed inside the pivot. It is locked by another elastic structure on the topper tip. They both allow it to have a sleek and easy-to-clean surface. The two main parts are identical to process.
